I’ve had the pleasure of owning the new Kevin & Bethany Paige CD “Beautifully Broken” since their performance at our conference in June. After listening to it in it’s entirety I can honestly say it is one of the best start to finish set of songs I have heard in the last 20 years. No kidding. This CD has something for everyone but at the same time doesn’t feel all over the map. The first track “One Love” is their contribution to Worship Leader Magazine’s SongDISCovery series and begins the set of thirteen songs. It’s very hard to pick a favorite but if I had to it would be the second track “Someone’s Prayer”. The message of this song should be heard in everything we do as Christians. Covering the classic hymn “How Great Thou Art” takes a certain amount of confidence and trust of one’s own voice. Bethany’s rendition is a definite highlight of the CD and her live performance only improves on the perfect pitch and soul of the recorded track.
Kevin’s songwriting is a sharp as it has ever been and the music is a true sampling of what is good and creative in the Christian genre today. As always the musicians are tasteful and spot on in their treatment of the arrangements. A perfect example is the re -imagining of “Shout To The Lord” with horns and the don’t listen while driving beat.
All in all an excellent addition to your Christian music library.
