How We Got Here

Ever wonder how you got to where you are today? Did part (or all) of your life turn out to be wildly different than your plans? Did you see yourself in a completely different place than where you are?

You’re not alone. I believe we all feel that way at one time or another. But as surely as I type this on a HP keyboard, you are where you are by choices you made. While there are circumstances (where you’re born, your family dynamics) that place you in certain life situations, your outcome is a result of the things you chose to do or to not do. I realize that sounded like something yoda would say, but it’s true.

If you chose as a late teenager to go to a four year college but decided to not study and attend only a few classes, you will most likely land in an unsatisfying job. That doesn’t happen in every case, there are exceptions, but the odds are that behavior and choice will not lead you to a CEO position. Other choices made after you decide to skip classes may get you back on track, but rest assured, continuing to shirk responsibility related to your college studies will have repercussions. That’s just one example.

I’ve lived long enough to see that choices I made as a young man have put to where I am today. Good and bad, mostly good. Of course God put my feet on the right path when I tend to wander around, and for that I am literally ‘eternally’ grateful, but I was the one that made the choice to wander.

Knowing where you want to go and making choices to take the right steps towards that goal is the wisest choice you can make.

Go and make good choices.
