This story seems to have drawn me in. I’ve read over the past week of the torture this young girl went through in her last days before she took her life. It all seems so stupid, senseless and so very preventable. She told others, including teachers and authority figures, but nothing was done. How frustrated and helpless she must have felt when after reporting the threats and taunts, she was ignored.
Have we really become a society where people are callus enough that they would bully and threaten a fellow class mate? Even if she ‘stole’ their boyfriend or somehow offended them, is it really worth a life?
There is plenty of responsibility to go around in this story. I hope the six people charged in this case get the maximum and that somehow it will prevent others from inflicting this pain on anyone else. RIP Phoebe.
